COVID-19 | Measures implemented in Portugal

During the outbreak of pneumonia by the new Coronavirus – COVID-19 the Portuguese government has been taking all necessary public health measures to protect the entire population. The analysis of the evolution of the outbreak is constant and implementation of new measures will be carried out whenever necessary.

The new state of emergency will take effect from Monday, November 9th, until Monday, November 23rd, and can be extended for periods of 15 days.

Measures of the New State of Emergency

 

Stay home

Civic duty to stay home

As of 00:00 on November 9th, 2020, the curfew comes into force:

  • Workdays from 11 P.M. to 05 A.M.
  • Weekends from 01 P.M. to 05 A.M.

 

Social Gatherings

The movement and concentration of groups of more than 5 people is prohibited, in private or public spaces, unless they belong to the same household.

 

Work from home

Working from home is mandatory.
In the impossibility of working from home, mandatory time lag.

 

Restaurants and cafes

During the curfew, restaurants must be closed but may serve takeaway.
In the case of restaurants, the limit is 6 people, unless they belong to the same household.

In restaurants, cafes, and pastries located 300 meters away from a school or higher education institution, the maximum concentration limit is 4 people, up to 8 P.M. on working days. The same limit applies to food-courts, except if the persons belong to the same household.

 

Shops

Closing time: 10 P.M.

Exceptions: takeaway, pharmacies, doctor’s offices, funeral homes, gas stations, and rent-a-car.

 

Markets and fairs

Prohibition of fairs and markets, unless authorized by the Mayor if security conditions are verified and compliance with the guidelines defined by the DGS.

 

Cultural facilities

Closing time: 10 P.M.
